«Christmas Puppet Making & Animation Workshop for People with Visual Impairments»
KEAT, December 5, 2022
On Monday, December 5, World Volunteer Day, we conducted a Christmas puppet making and animation workshop for visually impaired individuals in collaboration with the Center for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind (KEAT) in Athens and Thessaloniki. We chose World Volunteer Day to share our puppet-making knowledge with the beneficiaries of KEAT to get into the Christmas spirit together.
In the workshop, we created Santa Claus puppets using simple materials such as newspapers, masking tape, crepe paper, and velvet paper. We then proceeded to animate the puppets and engage in small improvisations. During the two-hour workshop, we not only developed our manual skills but also expressed ourselves emotionally and communicated with each other through the puppets. We were delighted to see the satisfaction and confidence the participants felt when they managed to complete their puppets with minimal assistance.
The workshop was held at the physical space of KEAT Athens (210 El. Venizelou Avenue, Kallithea), while there was also an online connection with KEAT Thessaloniki, where participants watched and took part in the workshop. The official guest of the workshop was Ms. Katerina Gagaki, Deputy Mayor of Social Solidarity of the Civil Society of the Municipality of Athens.
